AI consultant for UK small and medium businesses that want to adopt AI responsibly.

I help small and medium businesses in the UK start using AI at work. We get the basics right first. That means a staff policy, the right settings, a list of which tool is used for what and a check on where your data goes.

I follow the UK rules and the official guidance. They are the same sources I use for my journal. To start, send me a written enquiry.

Three AI services for UK small businesses

You can buy each one on its own. Most businesses start with the review.

Audit and strategy

AI readiness and governance review

I look at where your business already uses AI. That includes tools your staff have started using on their own. I also look at where AI could help. Then I compare all of that with the UK rules and guidance on data protection and security for a business of your size.

What you receive: a written review of how you use AI today and the risks. It lists the official sources that apply and gives a short plan with priorities.

Implementation

AI implementation with guardrails

I work with your team to bring AI tools into everyday work. We put the basics of AI governance in place at the same time. That means a staff AI use policy and the right settings and access. We also check what data goes into each tool.

What you receive: an AI policy for staff and agreed settings and access for the tools you use. You also get a record of which tool is used for what.

Training and workshops

AI literacy training for staff and managers

I run sessions built around the tools your business uses. Staff learn how to use them well and what not to put into them. They also learn how to read the official guidance for themselves.

What you receive: a session prepared for your team. You keep the materials and the list of sources.

How the work runs

  1. Written enquiry. You describe your situation using the form on this page. I reply in writing and tell you if I can help and how.
  2. Fixed-price proposal. If I can help, I send a written proposal. It covers the scope, what you will receive, the timing and a fixed price. No work starts until you accept it.
  3. Review. I map how you use AI today and check it against the rules and guidance. Then I write a short plan with priorities.
  4. Implementation. I work with your team to put the staff policy, settings, access and record of use in place.
  5. Training. Staff and managers learn to use the tools well. They also learn what must stay out of them.

Steps three to five are separate pieces of work. You can stop after any of them.

Who it suits

  • Owners, directors and managers of UK small and medium businesses who want to use AI and do it properly.
  • Businesses where staff already use AI tools and nobody has written down what is allowed.
  • Teams that handle customer or staff data and want to read the official guidance before that data goes near an AI tool.
  • People who want to see the reasoning and the sources behind a recommendation.

What I do not do

This is not legal advice. I am not a solicitor or a security auditor.

I describe what the legislation, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the National Cyber Security Centre have published. I help you put good practice in place. Whether a business complies with the law is a question for a solicitor.

  • I do not tell a business whether it is compliant.
  • I do not test, audit or certify systems.
  • I do not build or train custom machine learning models. I help businesses use existing AI tools well.
  • I do not guarantee outcomes.

If a question needs a solicitor or an accredited security assessor, I will tell you.

Why work with me

I build with AI and I advise on it. I founded LLM Scout. It is a platform that tracks how brands appear in answers from AI models. I also founded Code Scout. It is a free desktop AI coding agent that can run local models. I have released two open-source AI projects too. They are listed on my about page. I have worked in search marketing since 2008.

I write the journal on this site from the legislation, the regulators’ guidance and vendor documentation. I do client work the same way. I start from the primary source and then explain what it means for a business of your size.

Your enquiry comes to me and I answer it myself. I do the work myself too. The sources for my background are on my about page.

Questions about hiring an AI consultant

How much does an AI consultant cost for a small business?

I do not publish prices. The cost depends on the size of the business and how much AI is already in use. After your enquiry I send a written proposal with a fixed price. No work starts until you accept it.

How long does the work take?

That depends on the scope. The proposal gives the timing for each piece of work. You will know it before you commit.

Which AI tools will you recommend?

None before the review. I choose tools once I understand the work, the data involved and what the business already uses. I founded LLM Scout and Code Scout. I will tell you so whenever a tool of that kind comes up.

What happens to the information we share with you?

What you type into the enquiry form is sent to my email inbox through Web3Forms, a form delivery service. I use it only to reply to you. The privacy page has the detail. If we work together, the proposal says what I need to see and how I will handle it.

Will this make our use of AI compliant with UK GDPR?

I cannot tell you that. It is a legal question and I am not a solicitor. I describe what the legislation and the regulators’ guidance say about AI and personal data. I help you put good practice in place. I do not guarantee outcomes.

How do we start?

With a written enquiry. Use the form on this page. Tell me about the business, the AI tools already in use and what you want to change. I reply in writing and tell you if I can help and how.

Send your enquiry

Describe your situation. I reply in writing.

A few paragraphs are enough. Tell me what the business does, roughly how many people work in it, which AI tools are in use and what you would like help with. Your message comes straight to me.
